Nutraceuticals

Park Tonks have been at the forefront in the supply of specific nutritional and nutraceutical food ingredients since the early days of realisation that naturally derived ingredients can have beneficial effects on health. We carefully select which nutritional ingredients we offer on the basis of efficacy and evidence.

The following is a list of nutritional food ingredients that we currently supply or recommend for consideration in developing functional foods. However, we can provide you with virtually any ingredient that you require – please call Paul Clark on 01234 825 515 (paulclark@parktonks.co.uk) for more information, samples and quotations.

Astaxanthin

Astaxanthin is a potent carotenoid-type antioxidant that cannot be synthesised in the body. It is usually associated with eye, nervous system and mental health and there is evidence that it can aid in weight loss, reduce UVA damage to the skin, maintain a healthy immune system, and act as an anti-inflammatory against arthritis and joint pain.

Bitter Melon

Bitter Melon is grown in tropical areas.
Many studies have demonstrated the blood sugar lowering and insulin-releasing effect of the fruit and seeds, which could benefit diabetes sufferers; and also its antibacterial and cholesterol-lowering effects.
Leaf extracts have been shown to be strongly antiviral (HIV, herpes, hepatitis, flu and measles are all viral diseases) and antibacterial (Staphylococcus, Streptococcus and Salmonella are among the types of bacteria studied).

Calcium (Coral)

Calcium is the main building block for bone health and prevention of osteoporosis, but there is much evidence to suggest that the simultaneous presence of Vitamin D and Vitamin K is more beneficial. Calcium supplements have been shown to be effective against colorectal cancer, help reduce blood pressure and cholesterol and help reduce weight.
Coral calcium is a natural organic form of calcium that is easy to assimilate in the body. It also contains other naturally occurring important minerals.

L-Carnitine

Naturally found at its highest concentration in red meat and also synthesised within the body. Carnitine helps in the consumption and disposal of fat in the body.

L-carnitine

CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid)

CLA has been demonstrated to help metabolise fatty acids and thereby reduce body fat and therefore it is used in weight loss supplements.

Chromium Picolinate

Chromium is an essential trace mineral that plays an important part in metabolism. Humans better absorb the picolinate form than other forms. It has been shown to reduce the risk of diabetes type 1 and 2, lower cholesterol, help in weight loss and support healthy vision.

Chromium Picolinate

Co-enzyme Q10

Q10 is present in every body cell and especially in heart muscle, where it is responsible for energy production. It acts as a powerful antioxidant, especially in combination with vitamin E (tocopherol, see below). It has been shown to prevent furring and promote dilation of the arteries, reduce blood stickiness and clotting, improve heart muscle strength and reduce blood pressure – all of which are beneficial to heart health.

Q10

Creatine

Creatine is synthesised in the body and helps in the replenishment of energy. It is one of the most researched food supplements and works in the same energy producing cycle as D-Ribose (see below). Good for the heart, promoting muscle growth and digestion

Curcumin

Curcumin is the main active ingredient of turmeric, a seasoning often used in curries. It has been shown to be a powerful polyphenol-type antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent.

D-Ribose

A naturally occurring component of several chemicals in the body that is critical for metabolism and present within every living cell. There is no significant food source and ribose normally has to be made by the body from glucose before it can contribute to energy production; a rather slow process. It is an energy booster, and particularly good for endurance and muscle recovery from intense exercise.
