| Introduction | ||||||||||||||
|
A joint such as the knee, hip or ankle has a special structure. The surfaces at the head of the bones, which move over each other, are covered in a tough cartilage which is smooth and slippery. This, together with the synovial fluid, allows for friction-free movement. The relevant bones in the joint are held together by a strong ligament, which prevents dislocation during normal exercise. A capsule of fibrous tissue also surrounds the joint, retaining the synovial fluid and helps to keep the bones in place. Under normal circumstances, such as walking, the joint is very efficient. In the athlete or performance animal, however, joints are under extreme pressure. The joint quickly shows signs of wear and tear, leading to a variety of problems such as swelling, cartilage damage and leaking synovial membranes. The result of these problems is stiffness, inflammation, loss of rotation and decreased flexibility with subsequent reduction in performance potential. The unique metabolism of the joint requires the supply of nutrients which enable efficient maintenance and repair. In the athlete and performance animal, it has been proven that the additional supply of these key nutrients has beneficial effects. The key components are normally in low concentrations in a balanced diet, hence the need for an additional supply in the performance animal. |

| JointEase has been specifically designed
as a supplement to provide the additional nutrients required, as an aid
to the maintenance and effective repair of the joint in the performance
horse or camel.
Glucosamine is a pre-cursor for the synthesis of cartilage. Methyl sulphonyl methane (MSM) has an optimal chemical structure for absorption and subsequent utilisation in the joint, particularly the synovial membrane. It has the additional benefits of facilitating muscle recovery after maximum activity. Probiotic yeast provides trace elements (nucleotides) and facilitates the immune response. In addition, biologically active peptides have been added for immuno-facilitation. The immune-facilitation is a consequence of the joint being readily susceptible to infection. Other ingredients which are a rich source of anti-oxidants and other phyto-chemicals have been added to the product. |
