As with the highly trained athlete, the performance horse is susceptible to the same physiological changes that, if left unchecked, lead to a reduction in performance and health. These changes will alter energy and protein utilisation and cause an increase in the production of free radicals. These radicals lead to unfavourable metabolic conditions in all the body's tissues, resulting in a slower return to peak performance, a lowered immune response and subsequent reduced health status. The lowered immune response can lead to inflammation problems in the lungs and joints, in part due to sub-clinical disease challenges. Inflammation in the respiratory tract can lead to laboured breathing, as well as increasing the risk of secondary infection. In the case of the joints, swelling and stiffness are not uncommon and again if left untreated, will lead to increased wear and tear on such a vital part of the skeleton. As well as oxidative stress a horse, which is fatigued will be suffering from physical stress in many areas of it's body leading to unwanted symptoms. In such a state of exhaustion the horse will also be stressed mentally, especially if a rigorous training program is enforced. Adaptogens are a type of herb, which have been well researched in both human and animal athletes. They have been found to increase the body's ability to cope with stress and reduce the harmful effects of the symptoms, thus ensuring peak performance. |

| Product Application | ||||||||||||||
|
ReKover has been specifically designed as a supplement to provide additional nutrients as an aid to overcoming the physiological effects of an exhaustive race. Adaptogens and Bioflavanoids have been added as they play a role in achieving hormonal balance. This product can also benefit the animal by replenishing key nutrients that are depleted during a race. During rigorous exercise free radical formation takes place in all tissues and in particular the lungs. These radicals lead to unfavourable metabolic conditions in the lungs and subsequent inflammation of the membranes, reducing oxygen uptake. For this reason a specific blend of antioxidants and vitamins has also been included in the product, to minimise the negative effects of these free radicals. |

| Feeding Recommendations | ||||||||||||||
|
ReKover should be fed as follows: Horses suffering from exhaustion should be fed 100g per day post race, 50g mixed with the morning feed and 50g with the evening feed, for 10 days. To help prevent the onset of fatigue, horses can be fed 50g per day in the morning, during periods of increased training and/or frequent racing. The feeding recommendations should be adjusted according to liveweight
(guideline weight 450-550kg) and the level of exercise. |
